Sydney Roosters promising young centre, Robert Toia, has reaffirmed his commitment to the club, signing a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the Roosters until the end of the 2027 NRL season. The 20-year-old, regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in the club’s system, is determined to make his NRL debut in 2025 after overcoming a series of serious injuries.
Toia, who has represented the U19s Queensland Maroons, has long been touted as a future star of the NRL. However, his career has been plagued by unfortunate setbacks, including a ruptured ACL in 2022, a fractured jaw in 2023, and another ACL rupture in the opposite knee. Despite these challenges, Toia’s resilience has earned him a contract extension and the faith of the club’s leadership.
The contract extension comes at a pivotal time for the Roosters, as the team looks to fill the void left by the departures of Joseph Manu and Joseph Suaalii to rugby union. Toia’s return to full fitness and his strong desire to cement a regular spot in the starting side have made him a key part of the club’s future plans.
Roosters captain James Tedesco recently named Toia as a “Player to Watch,” acknowledging the potential the young centre holds. Speaking on his new contract, Toia revealed his determination to prove himself on the field. “After a long road to recovery, it’s time for me to establish myself and contribute to the team’s success,” Toia said. “I believe in the Roosters’ project, and I’m committed to doing everything I can to help the team win.”
With the backing of both his teammates and the club, Robert Toia is poised to make his mark in the NRL, with his sights firmly set on the 2025 season.
