Melbourne Storm forward Trent Loiero has expressed his gratitude and ambition in an emotional speech following the announcement of his new long-term contract, which keeps him at the club until the end of the 2028 NRL season.
The 23-year-old, whose rise through the Storm ranks and stellar 2024 campaign earned him the extension, spoke with conviction about his love for the club and his determination to achieve greatness with the team.
“Melbourne Storm has been my home since I was a teenager, and I feel incredibly privileged to commit my future to this amazing club,” Loiero said. “The Storm have shaped me both on and off the field, and I’m proud to represent the jersey and our incredible fans.”
Reflecting on his journey, Loiero highlighted the influence of coach Craig Bellamy and the club’s renowned culture of excellence. “From the moment I joined, the standards here have driven me to be better every single day. I owe so much to my teammates, the staff, and the Storm family who have supported me every step of the way,” he said.
Loiero also addressed the team’s heartbreaking Grand Final loss in 2024, framing it as motivation for the seasons ahead. “Last year didn’t end the way we wanted, but I believe in this group. We have what it takes to go all the way, and I’m committed to doing everything I can to help bring another premiership to Melbourne.”
Acknowledging the fans, Loiero added, “Storm Nation, your passion inspires us every game. I promise to give my all for this jersey and to make you proud every time I step onto the field.”
Melbourne Storm’s Director of Football, Frank Ponissi, commended Loiero’s speech as a reflection of his character and leadership qualities. “Trent’s words demonstrate why he’s such an integral part of our future. His passion, humility, and drive epitomize what it means to be a Melbourne Storm player,” Ponissi said.
With Loiero locked in as a cornerstone of the club’s plans, the Storm are poised for a bright future, led by one of the NRL’s most promising young forwards.
