Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet has praised the pre-season form of rising star Nathan Lowe, highlighting the 19-year-old’s hard work and progress ahead of the third round of the Challenge Cup. Peet’s admiration for Lowe’s efforts comes amid a wave of support from Warriors captain Liam Farrell, who has been instrumental in mentoring the young talent as he transitions to the senior squad.
“Nathan has been exceptional in pre-season,” Peet stated. “He’s shown maturity beyond his years, and his dedication to improving his game has really stood out. It’s clear he’s ready to step up and make an impact when given the opportunity.”
Lowe, an outside-back who primarily plays at centre but is versatile enough to feature on the wing or at full-back, is one of five academy graduates promoted to Wigan’s senior squad for the 2025 Super League season. Having been handed the number 30 jersey, the young prospect has built on the promise he displayed in last year’s academy Grand Final win over arch-rivals St Helens.
His journey to the senior side has been marked by incremental growth, including his participation in a 10-day overseas camp in Portugal with the first team last year. This year, Lowe has embraced his first full pre-season with enthusiasm, training under Peet’s watchful eye since November at Robin Park Arena.
Club captain Liam Farrell, himself a product of Wigan’s academy system, has been a guiding influence for Lowe. Farrell’s support has extended beyond the pitch, ensuring the young star feels welcomed and confident within the senior setup. “Liam has been fantastic with Nathan, offering advice and helping him understand what it takes to succeed at this level,” Peet added.
As Wigan prepares for the Challenge Cup third round, Peet hinted at giving Lowe playtime, suggesting fans could see the sensational youngster take the field. “Nathan’s earned his chance. He’s shown he can handle the physical and mental demands of senior rugby, and we’re excited to see what he can bring to the team.”
With Wigan Warriors’ renowned academy continuing to produce top-tier talent, Nathan Lowe represents the next wave of stars poised to leave their mark on the Super League.
