Brisbane Broncos veteran Adam Reynolds has extended his congratulations to Patrick Carrigan on being named the team’s new captain, following coach Michael Maguire’s decision to make the leadership change ahead of the 2025 NRL season.
Reynolds, who underwent minor neck surgery after sustaining a knock during pre-season training, praised Carrigan’s leadership qualities and expressed confidence in his ability to guide the Broncos. “Patrick is a fantastic leader and someone the boys respect deeply. I wish him and the team nothing but success and hope they keep winning until I’m back to help carry us to glory,” Reynolds stated.
The decision to hand Carrigan the captaincy comes as Maguire looks to ensure consistent leadership throughout the pre-season and regular season. With Reynolds set to miss an important month of pre-season training, and acknowledging his reduced availability in 2025 due to an ageing body, the move is seen as both strategic and necessary.
Carrigan, a proven leader and dependable forward, is expected to provide stability and continuity, particularly with his likely availability for most of the season outside of State of Origin commitments.
Despite the setback, Reynolds is determined to make a strong return and contribute to the Broncos’ campaign, which many believe could be his final season before retirement. Broncos fans will be hoping the combination of Carrigan’s leadership and Reynolds’ experience can propel the team to new heights in 2025.
