Florida State football has not gotten off to a great start, as they have a 2-9 record on the year. The Seminole fanbase was expecting to have a conference championship and be in the College Football Playoff.
Head football coach Mike Norvell and his staff would likely want to flush this season down the drain with the product on the field in a mess. Florida State thought that it could build on its 13-1 season in 2023, but it fell flat on its face this year.
It is difficult to attract recruits to the university with the failures on the football field. The Seminoles’ 2025 recruiting class is ranked as the 46th-best in the 247Sports Composite. Florida State has dealt with many prospect flipping to other institutions.
However, the three prospects in the 2025 class that are committed to other schools that could flip to Florida State.
LB TAVION WALLACE (ARKANSAS COMMIT)
Florida State was once seen as a favorite for four-star linebacker Tavion Wallace. The Georgia native was thought to be considering the Seminoles and was even crystal balled to Florida State before choosing Arkansas.
Wallace committed to the Razorbacks in July. Florida State has one linebacker prospect pledged to the fold in four-star Ethan Pritchard. The Seminoles would have liked to grab Wallace but struck out on him, as did Zaydrius Rainey-Sale (Washington commit) and Gavin Nix (Miami commit).
Linebackers coach Randy Shannon is not guaranteed to be on the coaching staff. Shannon has been a good developer with pieces such as Justin Cryer, Blake Nichelson, and Omar Graham Jr. However, he has a lot of question marks surrounding his recruiting ability.
Wallace came for a surprise unofficial visit to Florida State over the weekend. Could this be exactly what the Seminoles need to infuse good talent into Tallahassee?
DE TYLON LEE (OLE MISS COMMIT)
Florida State’s recruiting class has diminished, especially in the offensive and defensive trenches. The Seminoles have fired three assistant coaches before the season ended. I don’t think that it is the finished product of Norvell letting go of more coaches.
With that being said, the defensive line coaches, such as John Papuchis and Odell Haggins, are still with the program. Florida State has seen pieces such as four-star defensive end Javion Hilson and four-star defensive tackle Myron Charles.
Let’s not forget that four-star defensive tackle Kevin Wynn has been crystal balled to South Carolina. As a result, the Seminoles were searching for answers as the fan base are sick and tired of losing defensive linemen recruits to other schools.
Four-star defensive end Tylon Lee (Ole Miss) from Pace High School in Pace, Florida, has an official visit with Florida State as they take on the arch-rival Florida Gators. Lee could be looking for opportunities for playing time.
SEAN PEROT (SOUTH FLORIDA COMMIT)
Florida State had four offensive linemen committed to the program with five-star Solomon Thomas, four-star Peyton Joseph, four-star Mario Nash Jr., and three-star Daniel Pierre Louis. Then offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins was relieved of his duties.
As a result, they saw the offensive line become disappointed over what transpired. Atkins had been a great individual when it come to developing relationships in recruiting, but he utilized the transfer portal over developing in house on the recruiting trail.
His unit had been underwhelming, and Norvell decided to move on from him. Three-star Pierre Louis decided to back off his pledge to the Seminoles and he flipped to the arch-rival Florida Gators. The rest of them are looking at other teams as well.
As a result, I do not hate the fact of going after three-star offensive lineman Sean Perot (USF commit) from Atlanta, Georgia. The coaching staff decided not to schedule an official visit over the summer for the exact reason that they could go after him later on in the process.
